    Dear Constituent,

    Thank you for your correspondence.

I was for remaining in the European Union in 2016.  The result of the referendum was that we should leave the EU; however, the referendum question offered no guide on how that outcome should be achieved.  I have always believed that the result should be implemented and have voted on three occasions to do so by supporting the Withdrawal Agreement.

As we begin this new phase in the Brexit process the only certainty is that we must respect the outcome of the referendum; the basis on which we do so is still an open question.  The Prime Minister has emphasised that 31 October will be the end date for our membership of the EU but he has also stressed that he wants us to leave with a deal.  It is in the best interests of this country and the EU27 for Brexit to happen in an orderly manner with a deal and I will continue to work to that end.

    Thank you again.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mel Stride MP

    MP for Central Devon
