CAMPAIGN CORRESPONDENCE

  • EU Citizens and Access to the NHS

    27 September 2019

    Dear Constituent,

Thank you for contacting me about EU citizens’ access to NHS services in the event of a no-deal exit.

I want to reassure you that NHS services absolutely will continue to be freely accessible for citizens from the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland living lawfully in the UK on or before exit day (31st October 2019), as they are now.

Indeed, primary care, including accident and emergency services and GP appointments, will continue to be free of charge for these citizens.

The families of EU citizens living in the UK on or before exit day will also be eligible for free care on the NHS. Moreover, students from the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, will continue to be able to access services for free for the duration of their studies.

As I understand it, there will be no changes to the rules relating to visitors or migrants from outside the aforementioned countries.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mel Stride MP

    MP for Central Devon
