    Dear Constituent

Thank you for contacting me about the ongoing detention of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in Iran.

As you may know, Iran does not recognise dual nationality and therefore does not grant the Foreign and Commonwealth office consular access to Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe. Nonetheless, the British Government continues to lobby the Iranian authorities about her case at the highest levels in both London and Tehran at every opportunity.

Most recently, the Prime Minister raised the UK’s deep concern about her case in a meeting with President Rouani of Iran at the UN General Assembly in New York and stressed the UK’s position on her imprisonment.  The Foreign Secretary did the same when he met the Iranian Foreign Minister on 18 September.

Ultimately, this is a matter for Iran, but I know that the British Government is doing all it can in this very troubling case, which I continue to follow closely.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me on this issue.

    Yours sincerely

    Mel Stride

    MP for Central Devon
