  • UK BEST COUNTRY IN WORLD TO LAUNCH TECH COMPANY SAYS MP

    Mel Stride

CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride has described the increase in foreign investment in the UK technology sector as a huge endorsement for British companies and the wider strength of the UK economy. His comments follow the release of a study for the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport which shows £5.5bn of investment in the sector since January with around £3bn from the USA and Asia. The statistics follow an equally strong 2018 where the UK attracted venture capital investment than any other country in Europe.

Mr Stride, an entrepreneur who started a business from scratch and ran it for 20 years in the UK and abroad before being elected to Parliament in 2010, said:

“More than a third of Europe’s fastest-growing tech firms are in the UK and this study shows that the UK has now overtaken the US for the amount of investment per capita within the tech sector. There is no better country in the world to launch a digital company –there is a good supply of highly-trained workers, strong levels of Government investment within Research and Development, and both an effective tax system and regulatory environment which encourages entrepreneurship and helps companies get off the ground.”
