  • MP ENCOURAGES AMAZON CUSTOMERS TO USE 'LOCAL COLLECT' TO HELP LOCAL CAUSES

CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride has teamed up with the sub-postmaster of Ashburton Post Office Stuart Rogers to urge Amazon customers to use their ‘Local Collect’ service.

If a customer chooses to collect their amazon parcel from their local post office rather than have it delivered, Amazon donates 0.5% of the net purchase price to a charitable organisation of the buyer’s choice and pays a small fee to the post office branch. Ashburton Post Office has added a cherry on the top by pledging to donate 10p per collection to a worthy local cause – currently Ashburton Swimming Pool.

    Mr Stride said:

“Earlier this year a study by a leading market intelligence agency revealed that 86% of UK shoppers use Amazon, with 70% of customers shopping with the retailer at least once a month and 17% at least once a week. We want to make these customers aware that if they choose Local Collect they will be helping their local community and helping their post office. In Ashburton, there is an extra bonus with our post office also offering a 10p donation to our swimming pool.”

    Mr Rogers added:

“Every little thing we can do to drive up footfall in our towns will have a positive affect on local businesses and help our communities thrive.”
