TEDBURN ST MARY Primary School pupil Joseph Stanbury, aged 9, received a special visit from the village’s MP today (15/12/16) who wanted to personally congratulate him on winning the competition to design his 2016 christmas card. For the fourth year running, Central Devon MP Mel Stride invited pupils in the 43 primary schools in his constituency to showcase their artistic talent and Joseph beat hundreds of other entries with his picture of the Houses of Parliament at christmas and a message of ‘peace for all’.

Joseph’s drawing appeared on the front, along with two runners-up on the back, of more than 1,000 cards Mr Stride sent out to organisations he had visited in 2016 as well as friends, family, fellow MPs and ministers.

The competition was sponsored by Glendinning in Ashburton, the largest independent supplier of quarry and concrete products in Devon and Cornwall.

    Mr Stride said:

“Not only was Joseph’s drawing very beautiful with wonderfully colourful stain glass windows but his message of ‘peace to all’ is very relevant, with too much of the world sadly embroiled in conflict.”
