CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride was given a tour of a new affordable housing scheme in Christow today (21/04/17). The development of 18 homes started in 2014 and was officially opened last September. The £3.6million project was led by the Christow Community Land Trust (CCLT) and was supported by Teign Housing, which invested £574,000 and now manage the properties built.

CCLT Chairman Tony Cook, who showed Mr Stride around the development, said:

“We are delighted with the success of the project which has helped local families stay in the area. 14 of the properties are being rented with 4 sold on the open market at an affordable price, with local people being prioritised in both regards, as they will be again when any of the properties become available.”

    Mr Stride added:

“It was really good to be shown around by Tony who should be very proud of all the hard work that he and other members of the trust put in to make this happen. These very high-quality homes have resulted from a project that has been developed with community input at every step of the way. The whole community can be proud of the result.”

Community Land Trusts are an increasingly popular way for local communities to acquire land to deliver affordable homes where local families are given priority.
