Mel Stride

CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride has welcomed the news that Viridor Credits have committed to making contributions towards two major projects in his constituency. The funds, worth £18,000 between them, will be awarded as part of the Landfill Communities Fund which was created to award tax credits to worthy local organisations. In Tedburn St Mary £12,850 will be spent on resurfacing the drive and car park at the Recreation Ground and in Bradninch £5,239 will be spent on replacing the guttering at the Guildhall.

Mr Stride, who has previously visited the Recreation Ground in Tedburn St Mary and held local advice surgeries in the Guildhall in Bradninch, said:

“It is very important that rural communities retain vital community buildings and facilities and while local fundraising goes a long way, injections of capital like this are needed to tackle specific projects. Viridor have supported many local projects in Central Devon in recent years and I’m delighted they have chosen to support the Guildhall in Bradninch and Recreation Ground in Tedburn St Mary given how important they are to their respective communities.”

Tedburn St Mary Parish Councillor Terry Tume added:

“It is great that there is further investment in such an important community asset following on from previous support from the parish council. The Rec is used by our local sports clubs and we have had a major push on facilities for young people at the ground through Section 106 funding. This additional support will be a real help and I join Mel in thanking Viridor for their generous contribution.”
