CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride has applauded the hard work of Sandford Parish Council and the contribution from Sports England in delivering the village’s new multi-purpose sports pavilion. The facility, which has replaced the 40-year old hut at Sandford Football Club, was officially opened last week by Exeter Chiefs Captain Jack Yeandle.

Mr Stride, who visited the village today (14/07/17) and was shown around the new pavilion by Sandford FC Chairman Ade Gill, said:

“Having visited the site twice during its construction phase – in September last year and again this March – it was a real treat to come back and see the finished article. Sandford is a village that punches above its weight when it comes to sport, with its cricket club doing especially well so far this season, and this fantastic new building will be an asset for the village for generations to come. Sandford Parish Council and all the volunteers who have helped make this happen should be very proud.”

Mid Devon District Councillor for Sandford and Creedy Ward Judi Binks added:
“The new pavilion will be well-used by local sports teams but also by dozens of local groups, organisations and charities as well as our primary school. It will definitely be a focal point of the village and rural communities need facilities like this to remain vibrant and sustainable.”
