CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride is supporting the Okehampton & District Community Transport Group in their goal to fund the purchase of a new wheelchair-accessible vehicle through Aviva’s Community Fund. The fund supports a wide range of projects that make a difference in communities across the UK.

After casting his vote online in support of the charity Mr Stride said:

“Having spent time with the Ring and Ride on several occasions over the past 7 years I know what an extraordinary job they do in helping people to medical appointments, to go shopping and access social activities, which is vital in combating rural isolation. I know there will be many worthy causes competing for funding from Aviva, but surely none will be more worthy than helping such a fantastic local charity purchase a much-needed new wheelchair-accessible vehicle.”

Okehampton District Community Transport Group co-ordinator Sue Wonnacott added:

“We are grateful for Mel's continued support of our services. Our clients really appreciate the many hours (8560 last year) that our volunteers provided to ensure they were able to attend their appointments. With people being encouraged to stay in their own homes longer to stay independent it is crucial that wheelchair accessible transport is available to ensure they are not housebound but can enjoy trips out which improves their health and wellbeing.”
