  • MP LAUNCHES START OF NEW AFFORDABLE HOMES IN SOUTH TAWTON

    Mel Stride

CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride officially launched the development of six new affordable homes in South Tawton today (12/01/18). He was given a tour of the early stages of the development by Sue Chalkey and Jo Petford from Hastoe Housing who are developing the site, which includes six houses for affordable rent; 1 one-bedroom home, 2 two-bedroom homes and 3 three-bedroom homes. The scheme is costing £1.2million and is being supported with a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (£178,500) and West Devon Council (£100,000).

Speaking after his tour Mr Stride said:

“It was really good to be shown round such an important new development which will help families from the village and surrounding area afford to stay in the community they have grown up in. With averages wages in Devon below the national average but average house prices higher than the national average, more needs to be done to help families rent and buy affordable homes and this will be a fantastic asset for South Tawton for generations to come. Everyone who worked so hard to make this happen should be very proud.”
