  • LAPFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS WELCOME LOCAL MP ON SPECIAL VISIT

    Mel Stride

LAPFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL pupils had a special visit from their local Member of Parliament last week. Central Devon MP Mel Stride met with Executive Headteacher Mike Johnson, Head of School Clare Wilmott and Estate Manager Terry Pullen. He was given a tour of the school, including the Early Years classroom where he was told about the school’s efforts to obtain new funding to replace an old temporary classroom.

Speaking after his visit Mr Stride said:

“Lapford Primary school has developed hugely since I was last here three years ago – the new music area and outside play space look brilliant. I continue to hear very good things about the school and remain very impressed with the community environment that has been created. There is an issue though with a very old prefabricated classroom that needs replacing and I will be writing to both the Department for Education and Devon County Council to make the case.”

    Mr Johnson added:

“We were delighted to welcome Mel back to Lapford and show him the improvements we’ve made since he was last year. We appreciate he will be lobbying for more funding and hopefully we can finally address the state of the antediluvian temporary classroom which is incongruent against our other facilities.”

During the visit Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils told Mr Stride about their drawing competition, judged by Mid Devon District Council Chairman Peter Heal and Council Leader Clive Eginton. The competition, jointly run by the school and parish council, was designed to promote two causes – a ‘20 is plenty’ campaign to tackle speeding and a crusade to tackle dog mess. All entries were displayed during Lapford Revel.
