MP PULLS PINTS TO PROMOTE SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY ON 1ST DECEMBER

CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride is urging his constituents to support Small Business Saturday on Saturday 1st December. The grassroots, non-political, non-commercial campaign encourages people to shop locally and support the small businesses that are the backbone of our economy. Ahead of the event Mr Stride visited Tedburn St Mary and pulled pints with the new owner of the Red Lion Inn, Terry Tume, to promote the initiative. Mr Tume bought the pub in July and is continuing its tradition of serving great food, sourced from nearby Drakes Farm in Cheriton Bishop, as well as acting as a community hub, hosting various local groups including the WI and the Tremletts Club.

    Mr Stride said:

“Small businesses are the heartbeat of communities in Central Devon, whether in our larger market towns or in smaller villages like Tedburn St Mary. Residents can give their local economy a boost on 1st December by heading out for a pub lunch or doing some Christmas shopping locally rather than heading into Exeter.”

    Terry added:

“It was good to catch up with Mel and promote Small Business Saturday. It was also useful to discuss the autumn budget which was good news for the pub industry with the lowering of business rates for small businesses by one third and the beer duty freeze. Anyone wanting to join us for lunch or dinner can contact us on 01647 61374.”
