Pupils from The Duchy School in Bradninch hosted a visit from local MP and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Mel Stride today. Organised by Headteacher Simon Roberts to follow on from the learning pupils had done during UK Parliament Week, Mr Stride spoke to Year 5 and 6 pupils about his roles as an MP and cabinet minister, and answered questions on topics such as climate change from the school council.
Mr Stride said:
“It was great to be back at The Duchy School in Bradninch and it was a pleasure to speak to such a well-behaved and engaged group of pupils, who had clearly given great thought to the questions they wanted to ask. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there were some politicians of the future in the room!”
Mr Roberts added:
“Our Year 5 and 6 pupils were busy learning about Westminster and democracy as part of UK Parliament Week so to talk to Mel and connect what they have been learning with real life was fantastic.”
Mel’s visit to The Duchy School was his third as an MP, having last visited in 2018. Other primary schools he has visited this year include Newton St Cyres, Hatherleigh, Dunsford and Christow.
