Year 6 pupils from Chagford Church of England Primary School have hosted a visit from local MP and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Mel Stride. Headteacher Ed Finch gave Mr Stride a tour of the school – his first since the new premises opened in 2018 – and Year 6 pupils quizzed him about Parliament and issues such as climate change.
Mr Finch said:
“Year 6 pupils have learned about Parliament, democracy and British values so to welcome Mel to the school has hopefully made these subjects a lot more real. It was also great to show Mel the fantastic new facilities here since he last visited.”
Mr Stride added:
“The new school here in Chagford is absolutely fantastic. I remember the old site well and the new facilities are a huge improvement. It was a pleasure to speak to such a well-behaved group of Year 6 pupils and hear their passionate questions about issues they clearly care about. Inspiring an interest in politics at an early age is so important.”
During his visit Mr Stride congratulated Mr Finch on the school’s positive Ofsted inspection this summer, which rated the school as ‘Good’ in every category. For more information visit www.chagford-primaryschool.org.
