Pupils from Kenn Church of England Primary School hosted a visit from local MP and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Mel Stride on Friday (10/11/23). Organised by Headteacher Joe Baxter as part of UK Parliament Week, Mr Stride spoke to Year 5 and 6 pupils about his roles as an MP and cabinet minister, and answered questions on topics such as climate change. During the visit Mr Stride complimented staff on their recent positive recent Ofsted Report which confirmed the school continues to be ‘Good’.
Mr Stride said:
“It was great to visit Kenn Primary School and meet a class of pupils with such interest in how the parliamentary process works. There were some brilliant questions and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some future journalists in the room!”
Mr Baxter added:
“Our Year 5 and 6 pupils have been busy learning about Westminster as part of UK Parliament Week so to talk to Mel and make what they have been learning seem a lot more real was fantastic.”
Mr Stride’s visit was his seventh to a local school this year, having previously visited Hatherleigh, Bow, Ilsington, Morchard Bishop and Chudleigh Knighton primaries and South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton.
