Mel Stride MP visited Bovey Castle today ahead of the launch of English Tourism week, which runs between 17-25th March. Figures show that domestic tourism in England in the first ten months of 2017 was up 4% compared to 2016, with Devon continuing to be one of the most popular destinations outside London.
Mrel was given a tour of the popular hotel, located just outside Moretonhampstead within Dartmoor National Park by manager Francisco Macedo, before discussing issues facing the tourism industry including levels of VAT, as well as issues specific to Dartmoor such as broadband and public transport.
Mel said:
“Tourism accounts for one in ten UK jobs and the Federation of Small Businesses predicts that by 2025 the sector will be worth double what it was in 2016, creating more than half a million new jobs in the process. I’m proud to support English Tourism Week which champions the wonderful holidays and short breaks that can be had in our country, and within England there is nowhere more beautiful than Dartmoor.”
