Chudleigh Youth Centre is continuing to be an essential facility for young people in Chudleigh according to the town’s MP, who dropped in on Friday evening (14/02/14). Chudleigh’s Senior Youth Support Worker Steve Evans and Chairman of the Charitable Trust Bill Keen were eager to update Central Devon MP Mel Stride on funding issues, show him around the centre’s latest facilities and introduce him to the youngsters enjoying their evening in the centre. Several young people took the opportunity to talk with Mel in a ‘youth surgery’ at the back of the club raising issues such as funding for youth centres.
Speaking after his visit Mel said:
“Chudleigh Youth Centre is a great venue for young people in Chudleigh and I will continue to support them especially in seeking alternative funding and in encouraging others to participate in running this club. Steve and Bill’s enthusiasm and commitment to the centre is outstanding and it was great to see so many young people having such a great time here this evening. I was also very grateful for those young people who shared their thoughts with me on the night.”
The centre runs for ages from 8 and up and its facilities include a sports hall, pool tables, PS3's and Xbox360, PC's with internet access, a coffee bar, music system, 50" TV, kitchen and art equipment. It is open on Wednesday evenings for ages 10-13, Thursday evenings for Years 7-11, Friday evenings for ages 13+ and on Saturday mornings for ages 8-11. Mel’s visit was his third in the last five years.
