Ashburton Town Mayor Sarah Parker-Khan, Member of Parliament Mel Stride and new Portreeve Jenny Giles visited a number of local businesses today (09/12/17) that have opened in the town in the past year. Organised by Stuart Rogers at Ashburton Post Office, the trio visited East St Kitchen, WM Guitars and Jaded Palates, as well as POP Lighting which is due to open in January.
Mel said:
“Ashburton is a great town to run a business in and it was very good to hear that these new shops are doing very well, despite one of them being victim to a burglary this summer.”
Mayor Sarah Parker-Khan said:
“There is always a turnover of business properties in a town like ours, but it is very encouraging that premises are never empty for long with new businesses starting up and established businesses seeing Ashburton as a good place to relocate to.”
Jenny Giles, who became Ashburton’s 1197th Portreeve last week, said:
“We have a fantastic range of shops here in Ashburton and punch well above our weight in terms of what we have here compared to other towns. The huge turnout for late night shopping on Thursday is a testament to that!”
