Pupils at Tedburn St Mary Primary School received a special visit from their local Member of Parliament last week, who wanted to thank them for taking part in his annual competition to design his 2019 Christmas card. Central Devon MP Mel Stride was visiting the school for the third time in the past four years and organised the visit to coincide with National Reading Week. After meeting some of the pupils Mel caught up with Academy Head Andy Keay.
Mel said:
“As always, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Tedburn – the children were well behaved and really engaged. It was great to meet some of the pupils who took part in the competition to design my Christmas card and to chat with Andy about the importance of developing a love of reading at a young age. While we naturally want our schools to provide a well-rounded education that includes sport, music and the arts, the fundamental importance of literacy cannot be understated.”
Tedburn St Mary is part of the Link Academy, alongside Cheriton Bishop Primary and Yeoford Primary. For more information about the school visit www.tedburn.devon.sch.uk.
