Seven new affordable homes have today been officially opened in Sandford, just outside Crediton. The homes have been built alongside several other new properties in the village and will allow local people to be able to affordably buy a property in the area. Central Devon MP Mel Stride cut the ribbon on the new homes and spoke to those in attendance, welcoming the building of new homes and the ability for local people to buy a house in the area.
Mel said: “Building affordable homes in Devon is vital so that people can keep living in the towns and villages they grew up in. I was very pleased to officially open these new homes today and meet some of the people who have already moved into the properties. I would like to congratulate everyone who made these new houses possible, especially Sandford Parish council and Mid Devon District Council.”
The building of these affordable new homes is part of a nationwide plan by the government to build 200,000 new starter homes, 275,000 affordable homes and 10,000 homes new homes to rent below market rates by the end of the parliament in 2020.
