North Tawton's surgery has today had its contract taken over by the Bow Medical Practice. Operating from the existing North Tawton premises, which are due to be improved over coming months, the new contract offers peace of mind for local residents where the future of their healthcare has previously been under threat. The surgery will continue to offer similar services after the takeover including both bookable and drop-in appointments as well as a range of more specialized check-ups meaning that residents have continued access to the care that they require.
Mel Stride MP, who has lobbied NHS England for this solution over many months said,
"The threat to North Tawton's healthcare is something that I have taken extremely seriously and I have worked closely with NHS England in identifying a solution - I am delighted that the Bow Surgery is going to be providing this vital cover and that the GP coverage will continue to be provided from the existing surgery premises. I also recognise the very important support that NTEG and others have provided locally. This is very good news for the people of North Tawton and the surrounding area."
Bill Dean, chairman of the North Tawton Engagement Group added: “On behalf of the NTEG I would like to thank Mel for the very significant role he has played in alerting senior management in the NHS of the urgency of our situation. We believe that NHS performed very well in bringing this stage to a successful outcome in a tight time scale.”
Bow’s GP surgery stepped in following The Wallingbrook Health Group’s decision to not continue their contract in North Tawton. The transition between the two providers will commence at the beginning of April.
