Mel Stride MP paid a visit to the South Devon Railway in Buckfastleigh today to lend his support to the ‘Love Your Railway’ campaign – a UK wide campaign to raise awareness of Heritage Railways in the UK and the important part they play in historic conservation, education, and research. The campaign also highlights the detrimental impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the nation’s heritage railways.
As an MP, Mel has visited the South Devon Railway in Buckfastleigh several times to support various initiatives and has helped to promote fund raising appeals. He said:
“I am very pleased to support the Love Your Railway campaign and help to highlight the important role heritage railways play in preserving our local history. The South Devon Railway in Buckfastleigh is a huge local asset – bringing thousands of visitors to our beautiful part of Devon every year.”
The SDR is a seven mile former Great Western Railway branch line, built in 1872, which runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. Daily services between Buckfastleigh and Totnes Riverside have restarted and are now operating every day. For more information visit www.southdevonrailway.co.uk.
