Mental Health charity ‘Mind’ had a special guest at their fundraiser today as local MP Mel Stride joined them for their ‘tea and talk’ event in Drewsteignton. The event was held by the Exeter and East Devon branch of the charity which helps around 650 people a year and was organised by Sue Cripps and a team of volunteers. Sue said:
“We were delighted with today’s fundraiser and it was good to see Mel and have the opportunity to talk about mental health funding within the NHS. During 2014-15 nearly two million people in England were in contact with mental health or learning disability services at some point in the year and it is essential support is available to help them.”
Praising the work of the charity Mel added:
“Mind continues to do a very effective job in supporting people with mental health difficulties and has contributed some very good ideas about how services can be provided within the NHS. I am pleased the Government is introducing the first ever access and waiting time standards for mental health and will provide £1.25billion of funding over this Parliament specifically for mental health services. This will bring us closer to treating mental health conditions as seriously as physical conditions.”
