Mel Stride MP is urging Highampton residents to take part in a consultation on the future of their local post office. The branch closed temporarily in January after the subpostmaster resigned and the premises were withdrawn from Post Office use. The Post Office is now looking to restore a service to the village, with the subpostmaster from Hatherleigh providing a hosted service from Highampton Village Hall.
A six week consultation to gain feedback on a range of issues, including the new location and the days it should be open, was launched yesterday and Mel is urging residents to respond before the 18th June deadline:
“Highampton has been without a Post Office for the last four months so the consultation is welcome news. Village Post Offices are the hub of village life and provide an invaluable service to residents. I urge local residents to get involved with the consultation so any suggestions or concerns can be considered.”
The proposed opening times are 1.30pm-5.30pm on Tuesdays, 10am-2pm on Thursdays and 3.15pm-6.15pm on Fridays. Residents can give their views by writing to ‘FREEPOST Your Comments’ (no other address details required), visiting www.postofficeviews.co.uk or emailing [email protected]. The customer helpline is 08457 22 33 44.
