Mel Stride MP has urged his constituents and residents across Devon to continue to exercise personal responsibility to help prevent a second wave of cases in the county. His comments follow statistics from Public Health England which show the four district authorities in Mr Stride’s constituency – Mid Devon, West Devon, East Devon and Teignbridge – continue to have some of the lowest number of cases and lowest rates of infection in the country.
Mel said:
“The vast majority of people in our constituency and across our beautiful county are being very sensible and responsible when it comes to social distancing. This is evident in the data, which shows we are continuing to suppress Covid-19 here. But as the Government has repeatedly warned, it will not hesitate to reintroduce lockdown measures if infection rates start to rise again and we are now seeing this in parts of the country. If this was to happen here it would be very challenging for our local economy. So let’s continue to see our family and friends, support our local shops and head out for a meal or a pint, but do so in the sensible and responsible way we have done so far.”
