Mel Stride MP was in Heathfield, Bovey Tracey today meeting with administrators at British Ceramic Tiles which recently went into administration resulting in the loss of more than 300 jobs. This was Mr Stride’s third visit to the company and the first since the announcement of its closure a fortnight ago.
Speaking after his visit Mel said:
“I was devastated by BCT’s closure, with an entire family affected for every person who has been made redundant. I was very encouraged, though, with how quickly the administrators and staff at Job Centr e Plus have acted in helping BCT’s former employees find work, including holding a successful jobs fair. I also know local social media has been abuzz with the community in Bovey Tracey rallying around to advertise job vacancies. The local jobs market is strong and a number of former staff have already found new jobs. There is absolutely no room for complacency however and I will of course continue to work with the company and Job Centre Plus and do whatever I can to help.”
