Mel Stride MP visited the Ring of Bells in North Bovey recently for the first time since the pub’s thatched roof was completely destroyed by a fire in December 2016. It re-opened after a two-year closure. The 13th century pub is open daily from 10am offering lunch and dinners and has five guest bedrooms, with en-suites, providing a bed and breakfast service. Mel was shown around by landlord Richard Edlmann before pulling a pint behind the bar.
Richard said:
“It’s been a long journey to get the pub up and running again and it was good of Mel to show his support and swing by to see how we’re doing. Thankfully our insurance claim with NFU Mutual was successful, covering the full cost of the rebuild, and we’ve been able to get this historic pub open again and serving both locals and visitors to our beautiful corner of Dartmoor.”
Mel added:
“I remember having lunch at the Ring of Bells several years ago and thinking what a special country pub it was then and I’m delighted it has has lost none of its unique charm during the rebuild. It is evidently proving as popular a pub as it was before and I wish Richard and his wife Ellie every success.”
