Teignbridge District Councillor Mike Jeffery invited Central Devon MP Mel Stride to Moretonhampstead today to show him a potential site for up to 32 new homes in the town at Forder Farm. Cllr Jeffery, who represents Moorland Ward, spoke about the challenge of building homes within Dartmoor National Park and explained that the site will be a 50/50 mix of market value homes and affordable homes.
Cllr Jeffery explained:
“The housing development at Forder Farm will be behind the new school and is for up to 32 houses. There were some initial concerns about access and the need to maintain a number of hedges due to wildlife populations, but Dartmoor National Park have completed their surveys and are confident these issues are resolvable. If young people in Moretonhampstead and the surrounding villages are to be able to afford to stay in the communities that they have grown up in we need to ensure a sufficient housing supply and I think this development will be a sensible size, in a sensible location and I hope to see local families enjoying living in these properties within the next couple of years.”
Mr Stride added:
“I am very grateful to Mike for showing me the site and talking me through some of the issues that have come up. The 50/50 mix of market value housing and affordable housing is a real positive and will help more local families to be able to afford a home of their own.”
