Mel Stride MP was in Heathfield, Bovey Tracey today (09/03/18) visiting The Focus Training Group, which delivers a wide range of apprenticeships and commercial training. The visit coincided with National Apprenticeship Week 2018 which began on 4th March and aims to raise awareness about apprenticeships and celebrate the huge growth in apprenticeships seen over the last decade. Mel said:
“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to gain the skills and experience needed to embark on a successful career while earning. 9 out of 10 employers say they are that are satisfied with their apprenticeship programme and three-quarters say that apprentices have improved their business’s productivity or the quality of their product or service. The benefits to the apprentices are also sizeable with nearly three-quarters staying with the same employer after their apprenticeship finishes, 90% staying in employment overall and a quarter gaining a promotion within a year of finishing. It was really good to spend some time with The Focus Training Group and learn more about the excellent work they do in delivering hundreds of high-quality apprenticeships every year in a multitude of industries.”
Operations and Development Director Mark Down added:
“It was very good to meet Mel and to update him on the work The Focus Training Group does with local and national employers. This includes our Arb Academy which provides quality tree and forestry training and our electrical company DCET Training - one of the only organisations in the UK offering the Higher Professional Diploma in Electrical Building Services Engineering.”
