Ide Primary School had a special visit from the village’s MP today who congratulated Headteacher Sharon Tarr and her staff on the school’s conversion to an Academy on January 1st. The visit could be described as a ‘return leg’ after Central Devon MP Mel Stride welcomed Year 5/6 pupils from Ide to Westminster last May.
Mr Stride said:
“I’m delighted that Ide has become the latest primary school in my constituency to convert to an Academy. The Academies programme is an integral part of the Government’s education policy to raise attainment levels and give hard-working teachers greater freedom over curriculums and teaching methods. Nationally in 2010, one in three young people left primary school unable to read, write and add up properly but in no small part due to the academy system, which makes it easier to put in place better teaching, leadership, curriculums and accountability, 1.4 million more children are now in good or outstanding schools compared to seven years ago.”
Miss Tarr added:
“We are excited about our new academy status and strengthening our links with Alphington, Bowhill and St Thomas, through our multi-academy trust. The ability for our schools to share resources and function with shared values and sense of purpose is a big step forward in strengthening the sustainability of our wonderful school.”
