Ashburton's outgoing mayor Sarah Parker-Khan and Member of Parliament Mel Stride have thanked local business Grey Matter for providing free parking in their car park on Chuley Road at weekends and after 6.30pm in the evenings. Residents can even park overnight providing they leave before 8am the following day.
Cllr Parker-Khan said:
“Parking in Ashburton has improved since Teignbridge introduced long and short stay sections in the Kingsbridge Lane car park but it still remains one of the biggest challenges facing our town. Grey Matter offering their car park for free at weekends is a big bonus as Saturdays are the busiest day for local traders. With 60 extra spaces available, if you are ever in town shopping on a Saturday why not park where there are always spaces and it doesn’t cost you anything?”
Mel, who caught up with Ashburton Town Clerk Bruce Broughton on Friday and agreed to meet with the Ashburton Chamber of Trade to discuss parking and other issues, also thanked the business.
“It is very good of Grey Matter to offer up their car park at no benefit to themselves. Not only will this be useful on Saturdays but I know residents living close to the centre of town often come home from work and struggle to find somewhere to park so providing they are leaving for work by 8am the next day this is an option for them as well.”
