In his role as Chair of the influential House of Commons Treasury Select Committee, Mel has sought evidence from treasury officials over the effect of lockdowns on businesses and our wider economy.
Today he sought evidence from Sir Tom Scholar (Permanent Secretary, HM Treasury), Charles Roxburgh (Second Permanent Secretary, HM Treasury), Anna Caffyn (Director for Finance, HM Treasury) and Clare Lombardelli (Director General, Chief Economic Adviser, HM Treasury).
Mel has argued strongly that with proposed lockdowns both the economic as well as the health consequences should be fully taken into account in order to protect businesses.
