Bovey Tracey Primary School pupils will be engaging with UK Parliament week as a way of learning more about our democracy and discussing the issues that matter to them. The town’s local Member of Parliament Mel Stride visited the school recently to hand over some resources to Year 6 pupils and catch up with Headteacher Louise Prywata and Chair of Governors Amber MacDonald.
Mel said:
“For many young people the concept of Parliament and how it works seems very distant. UK Parliament Week really breaks down some those barriers and I’m delighted Bovey is one of the many primaries in Central Devon that will be getting involved. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit – the staff have done an excellent job during a very difficult 18 months.”
Amber added:
“We were delighted to welcome Mel to Bovey Primary and for some of our pupils to meet their MP and make that connection between Westminster and our community here in Devon. We have pupils booked into online workshops during UK Parliament Week and they are all looking forward to it.”
UK Parliament Week will run from 1-7 November and more information, including resources, can be found at www.ukparliamentweek.org.
